Roll Crimpers

Shot Shell Roll Crimp
Tool
Roll crimped shells give you
improved performance for almost every load type. Roll crimps provide consistent
closure resistance, delivering ultra-consistent chamber pressures. Large
pellets, heavy payloads and custom hull lengths are just a couple specific
component advantages associated with roll crimping. Roll crimped loads are easy
to make - once you have the right tools. Roll crimps are applied with a special
machined bit which, through a combination of heat and pressure, folds the last
1/4" of a hull inward and down - until the leading edge contacts an overshot
card sitting on top of the payload.
-
Start with any uncrimped hull. New, uncrimped
hulls are available in many types and sizes. Once-fired hulls can be cut down
1/4" - a 3-inch hull can be cut down to a 2-3/4" length then roll crimped.
Likewise, a 2-3/4" hull can be made into a 2-1/2" hull for custom upland or
target loads.
-
Load the shell as you would any other.
-
Place
a .030" overshot card on top of the pellet charge.
-
Secure the hull. Though it does not take much
force to hold the shell, securing the shell is easiest with the help of a Hull
Vise.
-
Place the roll crimp tool on top of the hull
(making sure it is turning clockwise as you look down from the back). Start the
drill spinning and apply very light pressure. When the edge becomes pliable
through a combination of heat and pressure, roll the lip down until it makes
contact with the overshot card wad.
